## Description of PERCENTILE Function

• This function returns the Kth percentile of the given set of data.
• The percentile is a value below which a given percentage of values will be taken.
• You can use the percentile to find the 90th percentile, 80th percentile, and so on.

## Syntax

• Here, you will see the syntax of the PERCENTILE function.
• To apply this function on your spreadsheet, you must select a cell and enter the formula in the following format.
• Once you enter the formula, click the button to get the result.

=PERCENTILE(array, k)

Arguments Explanation:

• Array – It is the input array or range of data.
• K – This is the number that represents the kth percentile. It should be in the range of 0 to 1.

Note:
1) If k is less than 0 or greater than 1 and then this function returns #NUM! Error.
2) K must be given as a decimal value that lies between 0 and 1 or a percentage (30%).
3) If K is a non-numeric value such as letters and symbols and then this function returns #VALUE! Error.
4) If k is not a multiple of 1/(n-1), PERCENTILE will insert to determine the value at the kth percentile.

## Examples

Let’s see some examples to understand how the PERCENTILE function will work.

• Initially, you must open your Excel workbook on your PC and launch the worksheet with data.
• For instance, we have given the input range in Column B and its Kth percentile values are given in Column D.
• Then, you must enter the formula in the cell below to get the result.
• After entering the formula, you need to click the  button to get the output.
• Once you get the output for the first cell, you have to drag down that cell to fill in the remaining values as shown in the below image.
• If k is less than 0 or greater than 1 and then this function returns #NUM! Error.
• If K is a non-numeric value such as letters and symbols and then this function returns #VALUE! Error.
