Explanation of MINIFS Function

  • It is one of the built-in functions in Microsoft Excel.
  • This function returns the minimum value from the given input values specified by one or two conditions.
  • The criteria are based on dates, numbers, text, or other conditions.
  • This function also supports logical operators such as <, >, =, <> (not equal to).

Syntax

  • Here, you will see the syntax of the MINIFS function.
  • To apply this function on your spreadsheet, you have to select a cell and enter the formula in the following format.
  • Once you enter the formula, just click on the Enter button to get the result.

=MINIFS(min_range, range1, criteria1, [range2], [criteria2], …)

Arguments Explanation:

  • min_range – The range of values from which you want to find the minimum value.
  • range1 – It is the first range to evaluate.
  • criteria1 – The criteria to use range 1.
  • range 2 – It is an optional one. It is the second range to evaluate.
  • criteria2 – It is an optional one. The criteria to use range 2.

Note:
1) If no cells match the criteria, this function returns 0.
2) The criteria range must be the same size as the minimum range otherwise it returns #VALUE! Error.

Examples

Here are examples to understand how to use MINIFS Function.

  • Initially, you have to open your Excel workbook on your PC and launch a worksheet that has data.
  • For example, we have given the range of input values in Columns B and C and we will get the lowest marks from this range using MINIFS function.

  • Finally, we need to click on the Enter button to get the result. Drag down the first cell to fill the remaining cells as shown in the below image.
