## Syntax

• Here, you will see the syntax of the MEDIAN function.
• To apply this function on your spreadsheet, you must select a cell and enter the formula in the following format.
• Once you enter the formula, click the button to get the result.

=MEDIAN(number1, [number2], …)

Arguments Description:

• Number1 – It is the first input number or cell reference.
• Number2 – It is an optional one. It can be a number or cell reference.

Note:
1) This function ignores Empty cells, logical values, and Text, any Non-numerical characters.
2) If all the given input numbers are odd, this function can calculate the middle number from the given set of input numbers.
3) If all the given input numbers are even, the median is calculated as the average of two numbers in the middle.
4) You can give input numbers up to 255 arguments in this function.

## Examples

Here we come up with a set of examples to make you understand how to apply the MEDIAN function in the Excel worksheet.

• Initially, you must open your Excel workbook on your PC and launch the worksheet with data.
• For instance, we have given the input values in the range B3:E6. And we will get the middle value from the range using the MEDIAN function.
• Then, you must enter the formula in the cell below to get the result.
• After entering the formula, you need to click the  button to get the output.
• Once you get the output for the first cell, then you need to drag down the cell to fill in the remaining values.
• This function ignores Empty cells, logical values, and Text, any Non-numerical characters.

From the above example, you can clearly see that the MEDIAN Function ignores the empty cells, logical values, non-numerical values, and text & calculate the middle number of given input and prints the output in the desired cells.
