  • It is one of the built-in functions in Microsoft Excel.
  • The EDATE function is used to get the date on the same day of the month, n months in the past or future.
  • EDATE Function adds the specified month to the given start date and returns the result date’s serial number.
  • You can use this to calculate expiration dates, maturity dates, and other due dates.

Syntax

  • Here, you will see the syntax of the EDATE function.
  • To apply this function on your spreadsheet, you have to select a cell and enter the formula in the following format.
  • Once you enter the formula, just click on the Enter button to get the result.

=EDATE(start_date,month) 

Parameter Description:

  • Start_date – Start date as a valid Excel date.
  • Month – Number of months before or after start_date.

Note:
If the argument is a non-numeric value (letters and special characters) and then it returns #VALUE! Error.
