Description of DSUM Function

  • Here, you will see the syntax of the DSUM function.
  • This function returns the sum of values from a list or database that matches the given condition or criteria.

Syntax

  • Here, you will see the syntax of the DSUM function.
  • To apply this function on your spreadsheet, you have to select a cell and enter the formula in the following format.
  • Once you enter the formula, just click on the Enter button to get the result.

=DSUM(database, field, criteria)

Arguments Description:

  • Database – It is the database range including headers.
  • Field – It is an optional one. This is the field name or index to count.
  • Criteria – It is the criteria range including headers.

Note:
1) You need to give the field argument as a name within the double quotes (” “) or a number representing the field index.
2) The database and criteria range must include the matching table headers.
3) If you didn’t give the field argument as a name within the double quotes (” “), then it returns #NAME? Error.

Examples

Let’s see some examples to understand how DSUM Function will work.

  • Initially, you have to open your Excel workbook on your PC and launch a worksheet that has data.
  • For example, we have given a range of input values in B5:E10 and the criteria range (B2:E3). The given condition is “Product=Pencil, Qty>3” and the output is displayed in Cell G6.

Multi-row Criteria

  • Multi-row criteria have one or more rows below the headers. These are joined by using OR logic.
  • The expressions in a given criteria row are joined with AND logic.
