## Description of AVERAGEIF Function

• It is one of the built-in functions in Microsoft Excel.
• This function returns the average of a set of input values that meet the given criteria.
• The criteria can be defined using logical operators such as (<, >, =, <>, *, ?).

## Syntax

• Here, you will see the syntax of the AVERAGEIF function.
• To apply this function on your spreadsheet, you have to select a cell and enter the formula in the following format.
• Once you enter the formula, just click on the button to get the result.

=AVERAGEIF(range, criteria, [average_range])

Arguments Explanation:

• Range – It is the range of input values that contain numbers.
• Criteria – You can give criteria in the form of a number, expression, cell reference, or text.
• Average_range – It is an optional one. This is the set of cells to find the average. If it is omitted, range is used.

Note:
1) This function ignores the Logical values, Empty cells.
2) The arguments can be Numbers, Array, or References that contain numbers.
3) If the range is blank or text value and then this function returns #DIV/0! Error.
4) If any cell in the range doesn’t meet the given condition or criteria, then this function returns #DIV/0! Error.

Let’s see some examples to understand how this function works.

• Initially, you have to open your Excel workbook on your PC and launch a worksheet that has data.
• In the below screenshot, you can be able to see the input range in Column C, and the output average value is printed in Cell E3.
• Then, we have to apply the above-mentioned formula to get the result, as shown in the following screenshot.
• Finally, we need to click on the button to get the result.
