Description of AVERAGE Function

  • It is one of the built-in functions in Excel.
  • This function returns the arithmetic mean of given input numbers.
  • It will accept up to 255 arguments that can be numbers, arrays, cell references, ranges, and constants.

Syntax

  • Here, you will see the syntax of the AVERAGE function.
  • To apply this function on your spreadsheet, you have to select a cell and enter the formula in the following format.
  • Once you enter the formula, just click on the Enter button to get the result.

=AVERAGE(number1, [number2],..)

Arguments Explanation:

Number 1 – It is the first input number, cell reference, or range.

Number 2 – It is an optional one. This is the second input number, cell reference, or range.

Note:
1) If the arguments contain Text, Logical values, or Empty cells, they will be ignored.
2) This function includes zero values.
