Explanation of EXACT Function

  • It is one of the built-in functions in Microsoft Excel.
  • The EXACT function will compare two given text strings and returns TRUE if they are the same or else returns FALSE.
  • This function is case-sensitive.


  • Here, you will see the syntax of the EXACT function.
  • To apply this function on your spreadsheet, you have to select a cell and enter the formula in the following format.
  • Once you enter the formula, just click on the Enter button to get the result.

=EXACT(text1, text2)

Argument Description

  • Text1 (Required): The first text value to compare.
  • Text2 (Required): This is the second text value to compare.

Practical Examples

Let’s look at some examples of this function and explore how it works in the Excel spreadsheet.

  • Initially, you have to open your Excel workbook on your PC and launch a worksheet that has data.
  • For example, we have entered two similar text strings as input in the cells B3 & C3, as shown in the below image.
